Chiropractic is a health care and pain relief technique based on proper spinal motion and nervous system function. Through normal wear and tear on the body or because of injury, spinal joints can become restricted and inflamed. This causes interference with and irritation of nerve roots exiting the spine, which causes pain and other health problems. By providing gentle manipulation to these spinal joints, a chiropractor decreases these restrictions and inflammation, restoring nerve function and spinal motion. This decreases pain and restores normal function.

Reasons Why Patients Visit the Chiropractors at Superior Healthcare

Back Pain

There are a variety of reasons why people experience back pain, including muscle or ligament strains, bulging or ruptured disks, arthritis, and osteoporosis. A primary method for treating back pain is through chiropractic adjustments and alignments, but other methods include massage, changes in diet, traction, and others. Your treatment plan will vary depending on the severity and location of the pain, and your medical history.

Reduces Blood Pressure

Medications are often prescribed to treat high blood pressure, but can come with several unwanted side effects. Chiropractic care has shown to naturally reduce blood pressure and can provide long-lasting results. Even though the doctors at Superior Healthcare may suggest adjustments in conjunction with medication, we’re confident that you will experience positive results.

Treatment For Scoliosis

An abnormal curvature of the spine, scoliosis can cause back pain, a limited range of motion, and poor posture. Scoliosis can also be difficult to treat with traditional methods. Chiropractic, along with physical therapy can help treat the condition and may even reduce the need for surgery.

Reduces Migraines and Headaches

There are dozens of possible triggers for headaches and migraines, including pinched nerves, muscle spasms, certain food and drink, or stress. When migraines and headaches become frequent and are impacting your quality of life, and when medication fails to provide real relief, chiropractic may be the solution you need.

Increases Range of Motion

If you were in a car accident or have a condition like osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, your range of motion may be limited, making it hard to complete relatively easy everyday tasks. Whether it’s massage therapy or an adjustment, you can begin to experience an increased range of motion. Keep in mind that treatments for a limited range of motion can take some time.

Helps Treat Sciatica

The sciatic nerve starts at your lower back and travels along your glutes, down the back of your legs, and ends at your foot. Even though doctors of chiropractic are generally known for treating back pain and related issues, because the sciatic nerve is so large there are many issues that can develop because of it. A chiropractic adjustment can do wonders to help relieve the intense pain due to sciatica.

What to Expect For Your First Chiropractic Visit

Visiting any type of doctor can be intimidating, especially when you’re seeing a chiropractor for an adjustment or alignment. But when you’re struggling with back pain, migraines, or a number of other issues, getting help is a must. At Superior Healthcare, we want to assure you that we won’t do anything you’re uncomfortable with, and we’re always willing to answer any questions you may have at any point during your appointment.

Consultation

When you first visit Superior Healthcare, we’ll complete a consultation to gather information on your medical history, like any medications you may be taking, if you were in an accident and sustained an injury, if there are other medical conditions causing pain, or if there are other issues that require treatment. We’ll also discuss your health goals and how we can create a treatment plan for your unique needs. The consultation is your opportunity to tell us what your concerns are and what you are hoping to get out of the visit.

Physical Exam

After the initial consultation, a physical exam will be performed to test your reflexes, range of motion, pulse, blood pressure, and muscle strength. During the exam, we’ll gather information that can be used to create a treatment plan based on your overall health and your goals. If necessary, we may complete X-rays to get a clearer visual of your bone anatomy and structure. Because every body is unique, treatment plans will be designed based on your specific needs.

Chiropractic Adjustment

Adjustments are typically completed during the same consultation and physical exam appointment. The adjustment takes place on a comfortable table and depending on your needs, you will be lying either face down, on your side, on your back, or sitting upright. The type of adjustment will depend on where your pain is located or the type of condition that is being treated. During the adjustment, your doctor will explain what’s being done and give you time to ask questions. Above all, we want you to feel comfortable and at ease during your appointment. If you ever feel uncomfortable, just let us know.

Follow-up Appointments

If necessary, we may suggest that you schedule follow-up appointments to receive ongoing treatments with our team at Superior Healthcare. This may be the case with more severe injuries or conditions that may take longer to begin experiencing relief. We may suggest a certain frequency depending on your health and pain level. Our goal at Superior Healthcare is for you to regain your quality of life — a pain-free life. And we will do what we can to get you to that point.
